1743, dans un Mexique envahi par les espagnols, les troupes du gouvernement poursuivent le rebelle LÉON ALASTRAY qui se réfugie dans la vieille église franciscaine de Père JOSEPH. Refusant de rendre le hors-la-loi aux autorités, Père JOSEPH est exilé à San Sebastian, un village perdu où habitent des indiens Yaquis. ALASTRAY part avec lui, déguisé en franciscain. Sur place, ils vont être confrontés à TECLO, chef des pillards.
