RESUME, AVIS

Un procès est engagé après la mort du financier américain SIGSBEE MANDERSON afin de déterminer les circonstances de son état. Le jury en conclut au suicide. Le journaliste du "Record" PHILIP TRENT chargé de l'affaire n'est pas convaincu du verdict et s'invite au château des MANDERSON. Il y trouve sa femme MARGARET, un associé, et le secrétaire JOHN MARLOWE. Les soupçons se tournent vite sur MARLOWE qui semble avoir une liaison avec MARGARET depuis longtemps.
