RESUME, AVIS

1897, PHILIP CAREY s'amuse au bal annuel des artistes de Paris. Il est un peintre fauché et n'a guère de chance avec la gente féminine. Affligé d'un pied-bot, il rentre vite à Londres pour suivre des études de médecine que finance son oncle. Un ami étudiant lui fait rencontrer une serveuse de pub, MILDRED ROGERS. Elle est séduite par ses manières de gentleman mais ne l'aime pas. Il s'entiche pourtant d'elle puis l'abandonne lorsqu'il se rend compte qu'elle est volage et caractérielle.
